Surrounding

Le Moulin du Clapier is located in the Nouvelle Aquitance department, sub-region Dordogne and Périgord Vert and just outside the cosy town of Sorges.

Sorges is a small village with about 1200 inhabitants, but bustling with activity. In fact, Sorges is also the centre of France's largest truffle area and has established a special Truffle Museum. A fun, educational museum with interesting facts about Truffles. The museum also organises regular truffle walks in high season, a fun outing for everyone.

But besides these two beautiful cities, the Dordogne naturally offers much more. Something for everyone. Castles, vineyards, nature, culture and much more.

Information folders with activities in the immediate surroundings are available in our gîtes.

Sorges-gb

Besides the truffle museum, the people of Sorges are active in organising local festivals. In summer, for instance, several "marche du nuit" are organised, a market where local farmers, vegetable growers etc. display their products. You can specify which produce you want and a meal will be prepared for you immediately. How nice is that! You can then enjoy this meal with drinks and music on the picnic tables provided. A fun family outing.

Every Sunday morning there is also a small market in Sorges on the square in front of the post office. Here, local products are sold and traditionally afterward, you can have a cup of coffee in the local brasserie.

But Sorges offers more! Besides a small supermarket - COOP, a bakery, butcher, pharmacy, dentist, post office/library/, Truffle muse./VVVV, Sorges has no less than two good restaurants. Hotel/Restaurant La Truffle and the bistro/brasserie Les comptoir des Halles. Both with good menus and service. But reservations are recommended, as locals know how to find these restaurants too.

Sorges is located between two larger towns, namely Periguex and Thiviers. Both a ± 15-minute drive away.

Worth seeing is the park Theulier with its exotic plants, ago near the town hall. Thiviers was famous in the 18th-19th centuries for its enamel factories. The blue enamel was particularly famous. The church of Thiviers also has a rich history and is dedicated to Notre-Dame. Originally built in the 12th century, it was destroyed and rebuilt in the 16th century. Thiviers is one of the six gateways to the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park and nearby Plan d'eau de Nantheuil is a true water paradise for children!

The various squares and narrow winding streets are lined with stalls selling delicious French cheeses, nuts, meats, olives, honey, fresh vegetables/fruit, etc. Vive la France at its best! Perigeux is on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella.
